FROM BRADLEY With LURVE, …#Pilot#

---Chapter 1: A New Beginning, or Bloggin'ing---

… … …

After A Lengthy Discussion…

…With…

“MY PARTNER In CRIME”

…I Decided To Begin A New Bloggin’ing Experience…

…With…

…Y’ALL.

I’m Calling This New Bloggin’ing Experience…

“FROM BRADLEY With LURVE, …”

I Expect To Have A Regular Pant-Load Of Excitement Brewin’ About With The Possibilities Surrounding The Innuendoย Levied There.

(SIDE NOTE: Can You Repeat The Line Before This One, But THREE-TIMES-SUPER-DUPER FAST?!?!?)

So…

…I’ve Decided…

…To Use An Old “Standby-Staple”…

…Of…

“YOU JIVIN’ ME, TURKEY?”

…Namely…

…The Good Ole…

“12-IN-’12”

…To Help Usher-In…

My NEW Series

“FROM BRADLEY With LURVE, …”

๐Ÿ˜€

Tonight…

…I’m Highlighting…

MY 12 FAVORITE MLB FRANCHISES (that aren’t The St. Louis Cardinals) and WHY!

Sounds Like A Lot Of Fun, Eh?!?!

My Thoughts, Also.

Fo SHO Fo SHO!!!

The ST. LOUIS CARDINALS Are Of Course The Be-All-That-Ends-All-In-Baseball, Y’all!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Let Us Begin…

…At The Beginning…

…Where You’re SUPPOSED To Start, By The Way.

… … …

#Honorable Mention

THE SAN DIEGO PADRES

The SAN DIEGO PADRES: Actually, This Stems From My Navy Days. In 1998, While Attending Journalism School At Ft. Meade, Maryland, The Baseball WORLD SERIES Was Played-Out That October By The SAN DIEGO PADRES and The NEW YORK YANKEES. I Totally HATED The Yanks, and The Horses They Rode-In-On, So I Rooted Extra EXTRA HARD For The PADRES That Series. The Yanks SWEPT The Pads, 4Games To NONE! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

#12

THE SEATTLE MARINERS

The SEATTLE MARINERS: This One Is A Pretty EASY Guess For Anyone That Knows Me Very Well. I Was Stationed In Everett AND Bremerton, Washington, In 1999, 2000, and 2001. I Was THERE When They Blew-Up “The King Dome” AND When They Opened “SAFECO Field” and I’ve Had A Warm’ish/Soft’ish Place In My Heart For The Mariners Since Then. Sadly, They Really Do Suck BADLY The Majority Of The Time. Oh Well. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

… … …

#11

THE OAKLAND ATHLETICS

The OAKLAND ATHLETICS: These Cats Are Here For ONE REASON… “The BASH-BROTHERS” Fo SHO! Being A Child Of The 80s, There’s No-More-GLARING Example Of The 80s Than McGWIRE and CANSECO and Their FOREARM-BUMP HAHAHA Yes, Yes Indeed. Tons-O-Fun To WATCH! And Now They’ve All Be Labeled “Cheaters” Because They Were Raging-On-Roids. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

… … …

#10

THE MILWAUKEE BREWERS

The MILWAUKEE BREWERS: The LOGO Is WHY I Like Them. PERIOD. What Can I Say? It’s A DAMNED POWERFUL LOGO, Fo SHO Fo SHO!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

… … …

#9

THE MONTREAL EXPOS

The MONTREAL EXPOS: A Wonderful Franchise That Was Choked-To-Death By RAMPANT LOSING, And The Fact They Were Canada’s “OTHER TEAM” or “BASTARD TEAM” or “LOSING TEAM” or Whatever. I Honestly LOVED The EXPOS, And I DID Shed A Tear The Day They Started Playing Half Of Their Home-Games In The CARIBBEAN!!! At That Point, We Knew Their Time Was On Life-Support. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

… … …

#8

THE SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

The SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS: From The 1980s Until The Start Of The 1993 Season, I Was A Major Fan Of The GIANTS. WILL "The Thrill" CLARK was THE MAN, As Was MATT WILLIAMS, Fo SHO!!! And YES, I Did Root For The GIANTS To BEAT The A's In The 1989 WORLD SERIES (aka "Earthquake Series"). Sadly, however, BARRY BONDS Left The PITTSBURGH PIRATES And Headed West, To The Greener-Pastures Of SAN FRAN. I Always HATED B.B., And That Became The "I HATE The GIANTS!" Rallying-Cry For Li'l Ole ME. I Bet Against Them During The 2002 WORLD SERIES, But (with Barry GONE) I Totally Bet For Them To WIN In The 2010 WORLD SERIES. I Won BOTH Bets. ๐Ÿ˜‰

… … …

#7

THE TORONTO BLUE JAYS

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS: I Always Had A Soft-Spot For The JAYS. They Had Some Damn Fine Ball-Clubs Over The Years. And NO They Didn’t Get Much Recognition Even After Winning The WORLD SERIES In 1992 AND AGAIN in 1993!!! Those JAYS Teams Were TRUE-BLUE-POWERHOUSES, Fo FLIPPIN’ SHO!!! John Olerud -1B- Was MY FAVORITE JAY, By The Way. ๐Ÿ˜‰

ย … … …

#6

THE PITTSBURGH PIRATES

The PITTSBURGH PIRATES: These Dudes Were ALWAYS My Father's FAVORITE TEAM (and a little of that rubbed of on ME). We Used To Watch Them EVERY TIME They Played The ST. LOUIS CARDINALS or The CHICAGO CUBS or The ATLANTA BRAVES (since we get all three of those stations here in SoIL). The PIRATES Had A Horrid Habit Of "Playing Amazing Baseball To Get Into The Play-Offs" Followed Quickly By "CHOKE CHOKE CHOKE"!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

… … …

#5

THE CHICAGO WHITE SOX

The CHICAGO WHITE SOX: The CHISOX Are THE ONE and THE ONLY Professional Sports Team I EVER Root For That’s Also FROM Chicago. The BEST Reason To Love The CHISOX? Because SAYING The Phrase “I LOVE THE CHISOX!” Goes A VERY Long Way In PISSING-OFF Those True-Blue CUBS Fans. ๐Ÿ˜€ I Was Tickled-Pink When They Finally Won The WORLD SERIES In 2005… …And Less-Tickled-Pink In The SIX SEASONS SINCE!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

… … …

#4

THE NEW YORK METS

The NEW YORK METS: I Purchased My Very 1st METS Baseball-Cap In 1991. My Two Favorite METS Players In 1991 Were 3B/Utility-Man HOWARD "HoJo" JOHNSON and Their Closer JOHN FRANCO. And WHY Did I Take-Up The Cause Of The Lowly (at that time) METS? Because I KNEW That By Doing So I Was GUARANTEED To PISS-OFF SOMEONE!!! When (nearly) Your Whole Bedrock Of Family AND Friends Are Constantly Divided Between The CARDS and The CUBS... Yeah... A Little Of The Ole "Monkey Wrench Into The Works" Routine Is TOTALLY Called-For, Fo SHO!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

… … …

#3

THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

The PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES: Well, The PHILLIES Won The WORLD SERIES The Year I Was Born. They’ve Won 5-Pennants In My Short (while not so short) Lifetime (1980, 1983, 1993, 2008 & 2009). The Icing On Cake, For ME, Was The PHILLIES Are The Franchise My Childhood Baseball HERO, 3B MIKE SCHMIDT, Played BRILLIANTLY For His ENTIRE CAREER. Of ALL The “Retirement Announcements” I’ve EVER Seen AND/OR Heard, MIKE SCHMIDT’s In 1989 Brought Even ME To Tears. SCHMIDT Retires, PETE ROSE Gets Banished, AND The Earthquake During The WORLD SERIES. Yepper Kids, 1989 Was A VERY TOUGH Year, That’s Fer DAYUM Sure.

… … …

#2

THE DETROIT TIGERS

The DETROIT TIGERS: 5-NAMES You MUST Remember, My Peeps. #1 THOMAS MAGNUM! #2 ALAN TRAMMELL! #3 JACK MORRIS! #4 KIRK GIBSON #5 DANNY YATES! I Do So So SO Love Love LOVE My TIGERS! ‘Nuf ‘Ced, Fo SHO Fo SHO!!!

… … …

And Finally…

…What Is BRADLEY’s FAVORITE ย (non St. Louis Cardinals) BASEBALL FRANCHISE???

???

???

#1

THE KANSAS CITY ROYALS

The KANSAS CITY ROYALS: I’ve Mentioned To Y’all Previously That The 1985 WORLD SERIES Was “THE BIRTH Of MY BASEBALL FANATICISM ” Which Has Yet To Ever Really Change. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Baseball. And The ’85 Series Was Between These KANSAS CITY ROYALS and Those ST. LOUIS CARDINALS!!! My Favorite Pitcher Of MY Lifetime (thus far)? BRET SABERHAGAN Of KC, DUH!!! So Yeah, The ROYALS BEAT The CARDINALS In 7-Games. While I DO Maintain The VERY Correct Knowledge Of HOW and WHY The Cards DIDN’T Win Game 6 (it was due to the UMPIRE’s blown-call) BUT They STILL Had To LOSE Game 7! And BOY OH BOY Did The CARDS LOSE IT! The Final Score Was ROYALS 11 (aka a thumpin’), CARDINALS 0 (aka zero, nadda, nuttin’)!!! BUT, My Peeps, I Am NOT A Fickle Man. I Don’t Jump From Ship To Ship Like So So SO Many Folks Do. I Know WHO I AM, WHAT I’VE GOT, WHAT I NEED, WHAT I SHOULD HAVE, WHO I’M WITH, and WHO I’VE LEFT BEHIND. My FAVORITE PITCHER EVER EVER EVER Is BRET SABERHAGEN Of Those KANSAS CITY ROYALS, FOOO SHOOO!! The CARDINALS May Be The BIGGEST-BOYS On MY-BLOCK, But I Do Do DO Sooooooooooo LOVE ME SOME ROYALS! WOOT!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

… … …

I Sure Hope Y’all Enjoyed That One.

I’ve Had A Rather Tiring…

…Yet…

…Personally Productive Evening.

I Think THIS Personal Accomplishment Merits…

…A HOT CUP…

…Of…

“8 O’CLOCK COFFEE”

!!!

Mmm Mmm MMMM!!!

๐Ÿ˜‰

BIRTHDAYS and BRO’STACHES: BORN ON OPENING-DAY!?!?!

YOU BETCHA, BUSTERS!!!

Since Y’all Continue Telling Me To Do More…

…Personal’ish…

…Bloggin’ings…

…I Decided To Simply…

Begin

At

The Beginning.

Only Seems Right.

Right?!?!?

RIGHT!!!!!

As The Title Suggests…

(or really just flat out says)

I Was Born

OPENING-DAY

1980.

The St. Louis Cardinals

…Were…

…AT HOME…

Busch Stadium II: St. Louis, MO!!!

…Taking On…

The Pittsburgh Pirates

The Starting Pitchers…

…Were…

PETE VUCKOVICK

Pete Vuckovich -SP- -STL- (1980)

…For…

THE CARDINALS

…And…

BERT BLYLEVEN

Bert Blyleven -SP- -PIT- (1980)

…For…

THE PIRATES

Honestly…

…It Was A Rather…

…QUIET Game.

All The Scoring Was Done In The 2ND-INNING!

And…

…In The End…

THE CARDS WON!!!

VUCKOVICH Would Toss A MASTERFUL…

…COMPLETE GAME SHUT-OUT…

…Walking 2-Batters…

…Hitting 1…

…Giving Up 3-Singles…

…And STRIKING-OUT 9-BUCS!!!

THE CARDINALS Themselves Only Manged 3-Hits.

Lucky For ME

…Er…

THEM

…They Had…

GEORGE HENDRICK!!!

George Hendrick -OF- -STL- (1980)

His Double In The 2ND-Inning…

…Scored…

BOBBY BONDS!!!

Bobby Bonds -OF- -STL- (1980)

That Was…

…ALL VUCKOVICH NEEDED!!!

Another Cardinals Favorite…

KENNY REITZ

Ken Reitz -3B- -STL- (1980)

…Had St. Louis’ OTHER 2-Hits…

…Both Singles.

After WINNING ON MY BIRTHDAY

(aka OPENING-DAY)

…The Cards Would LOSE The Next 3-Gamesย To The Pirates.

HOWEVER…

…They STILL WON FOR MY BIRTH-BIRTHDAY!

Was It “FATE”???

Hmm…

…I Dunno…

…Since I Don’t Really Believe In That Sort Of “Hogwash”…

…As Some Of My Elder Family AND Friends Might Have Said.

BUT BUT BUT…

…I Can STILL Be SUPER-STOKED About It.

I Mean…

…COME ON…

…Ya KNOW?!?!

How Many People Get To Say That?!?!

I Was…

…BORN ON OPENING-DAY…

…And…

…MY TEAM WON!!!

If That’s What “FATE” Is…

…Then I Suppose It’s Acceptable…

…In THIS Instance.

Ted Simmons -C- -STL- (1980)

๐Ÿ˜‰

The 1992 PITTSBURGH PIRATES Starting-Rotation: A True Guilty Pleasure, Fo Sho!!!

For The 1992 Pittsburgh Pirates

…Their Starting-Rotation Eventually Consisted Of…

…SIX (6) Quality Starting-Pitchers.

The Funny Part…

…To ME, Anyway…

…Is They Were Truly Betrayed…

…By One Of The WEAKEST-Bullpens…

…For A FIRST- PLACE-Team.

BUT BUT BUT, My Peeps…

I Promise I’m Not Here To Belittle Their Relief-Corps.

I’m Here…

…In ALL Honesty AND Sincerity…

…To Shed Some Light On A Rotation…

…That TRULY Had…

…ALL THE POTENTIAL IN THE WORLD…

…To Simply GO FOR IT!!!

Sooo…

…Let Us Begin At The Top…

…With…

…THE PIRATES’ ACE-Of-ACES…

DOUG DRABEK

Doug Drabek went 15-11, with a 2.77ERA, 10CG & 4SHO in 1992!!!

Doug Drabek would Win 92 Games for Pittsburgh Overall, and was The 1990 NL-CY, going 22-6, with a 2.76ERA!!!

๐Ÿ˜€

Shall I Continue?

Good.

I Was Hoping You’d Say That.

Next-Up…

RANDY TOMLIN

Randy Tomlin went 14-9, with a 3.41ERA in 1992, but only Pitched for 5 Seasons in The Majors!!!

๐Ÿ™‚

I Know, I Know…

…I’m Not Even To The Fun Stuff, Yet.

Our 3rd Starter Of Mention, Is…

ZANE SMITH

Zane Smith was only 8-8 in His 22 Starts during The 1992 Campaign, but Finished with a 3.06ERA, 4CG & 3SHO!!!

๐Ÿ˜€

The 4th Starter Was A Personal-Favorite…

…Of MY FATHER’s…

BOB “THE FOSSIL” WALK

Bob Walk (aka “The Fossil” as My Father ALWAYS Called Him) was 10-6, with a 3.20ERA in 1992, Notching 1CG & 2SV!!!

Bob Walk would Notch 82 Wins for Pittsburgh, before hanging it up following the 1993 Season… and YES, My Father DOES OWN THAT PIRATES CAP… and STILL Sports His ‘stache!!!

๐Ÿ˜€

Coming-In At #5 On This Little List…

…Is A Name MOST Of Y’all…

…Who Grew-Up As BASEBALL FANS…

…In The 1980s & 1990s…

…Should EASILY Recall…

DANNY JACKSON

Danny Jackson was only brought to The Pirates for The 2nd-Half of The 1992 Season. He’d Go 4-4 in 15-Starts, with a 3.36ERA!!!

When I think about Danny Jackson, however, THIS is How I Prefer to Remember Him. He had His Best Season For KC in 1985, the Year The Royals WON The World Series, though His Personal-Best-Season came in 1988 while with The Cincy Reds!!!

And…

…Last, But TOTALLY Not LEAST…

…Is Someone Who Hasn’t Been Retired Very Long.

He Was THE PIRATES…

…ROOKIE Pitching PHENOM In 1992…

…And He’s Got A DAMN-FINE…

…KNUCKLE-BALL.

Sound Familiar???

He Should.

He’s None-Other-Than…

TIM WAKEFIELD

Tim Wakefield was a “Rookie Phenom” in Pittsburgh following His call-up to The Majors in 1992. He would make 13-Starts, going 8-1, with a 2.15ERA, and tossing 4CG & 1SHO!!!

Tim Wakefield Followed-Up His BRILLIANT 1992 Campaign with a HORRID 1993 Campaign. He Didn’t Pitch PERIOD in 1994, then landed in Boston in 1995 (and was named The Red Sox Pitcher Of The Year for 1995, going 16-8 with a 2.95ERA) and he remained in Boston thereafter. He Notched His 200th Overall-Victory in 2011!!!

Yeah…

…Well…

…What More Can I Say, My Peeps?!?

The 1992 PITTSBURGH PIRATES

…Were Honestly AND Truly

A Fine Team

With A Fine Rotation

…And…

…Were A TON-O-FUN To Watch.

Sadly…

…In The End…

…They’re Mainly Remembered As Being…

…The FINAL-GASP Of A Storied Franchise…

…That Hasn’t Had A Winning Season SINCE.

THE PITTSBURGH PIRATES

—(((Amended On October 3rd, 2013: Well, Okay, Until Now. Congrats To THE PITTSBURGH PIRATES For Snapping 20+Years Of Hard-Times For Themselves AND Their Fans! Of Course, You Know I’ll Be Rooting For The Cardinals, But If The Bucs Beat St. Louis, I’ll Be Rooting For Them To Go The Rest Of The Way. ๐Ÿ˜‰ teehehe)))—
