The titles and era of these films reminds me of a trip my family took to NYC around ’73 or ’74. I would have been around ten or eleven years old. We were walking through Times Square, nothing like the cleaned-up, family-friendly place you see today. It was all porn shops, guys selling stolen goods, and winos puking on the pavement. At one point, I looked up at a theater marquee and read the title of the film showing there. It was called, “Splendor in the Ass.” I asked my mom what it was about. She made my dad hail a cab, and that was the end of that.

I saw ‘Race with the Devil’ with my grandad in the seventies and we were the only ones in the theatre. It was great.
