So…
…What Is (likely) The MOST HATED Epic From The JAMES BOND Film Series?
Well…
…Purests Would (likely) Say…
“MOONRAKER“
…Starring…
ROGER MOORE As “JAMES BOND“
LOIS CHILES As “HOLLY GOODHEAD“
MICHAEL LONSDALE As “DRAX“
&
RICHARD KIEL As “JAWS“
.Period.
π
HOWEVER…
…To Someone Like Myself…
“MOONRAKER“
…Just Happens To Be THE MOST CHEESE-TASTIC BOND FLICK Of ALL-TIME.
.Period Period.
π
Am I Saying…
“MOONRAKER Is The Best BOND Flick EVER!”
??? ??? ???
No.
Not. At. All.
BUT BUT BUT…
…Am I Saying…
“MOONRAKER Is The Worst BOND Flick EVER!”
??? ??? ???
Nope.
Not. At. All. Either.
So What The Hell Am I Saying???
Well…
…I’m Saying…
“MOONRAKER Is A Veritable Pant-Load Of FUN!”
π
When I First Started Buying Blu-ray Flicks…
“MOONRAKER“
…Just So Happened To Be The Very First BOND Flick I Purchased.
WHY?
Because I Simply Knew It Would Look Wonderful In The Blu-ray Format On The Β Big-Screen-TV!!!
.Period Period Period.
For Those Of You Who Have Never Seen…
“MOONRAKER“
…I’ll Try To Explain WHY It’s So Much Fun.
Basically…
…It’s A Combination Of…
“Classic JAMES BOND Intrigue And Style And Humor”
…Heavily Mixed With Overtones Of…
“STAR WARS“
…And NO I’m NOT Joking.
“MOONRAKER“
…Became The Laughing-Stock Of The Entire JAMES BOND Franchise.
In Fact…
…To This Very Day…
…A Lot Of People Refer To It As…
“JAMES BOND IN OUTER-SPACE“
!!! !!! !!!
π
Yep.
That’s Right.
“OUTER-SPACE“
!!! !!! !!!
No Foolies.
BOND Actually Leaves Earth…
…And Heads To The Space-Station-Hideout Of The Evil “DRAX”…
…Where The Man Is Poised To Destroy All Human Life On Our Loverly Little Planet.
(HAHAHAHA!!!)
Like I Said, My Peeps…
…Purest Fans Of The BOND Films Really Turned A Cold-Shoulder To This One.
It Was Simply Way Too Far Fetched For Them To Take Seriously.
The Creators Of The Film Really Wanted To Cash-In On The Recent Success Of “STAR WARS“…
…And So Was Born…
“MOONRAKER“
…The Silliest…
…Goofiest…
…Cheesiest BOND Flick Of Them ALL!!!
NO WONDER I LOVE IT SO MUCH, Right?!
RIGHT!!!
π
If You’ve Seen It Already…
…You Know EXACTLY What I’m Talking About.
If You’ve NOT Seen It Already…
…Do Yourself A Favor And Give It The Ole College-Try.
Just Do Me A Favor…
…Go Into It EXPECTING Pure-CHEESY-Goodness!!!
Trust Me…
…In That Regard…
…It TOTALLY Delivers!!!
π
I completely agree. Moonraker isn’t up there with Goldfinger or From Russia With Love, but it’s a lot of fun and gets too much criticism from most in my opinion.

At the time this movie was all the rage, the most popular Bond film ever. It boasted the largest stage set ever constructed to house “Moonraker’s” space station. For a film without CGI it had a lot of special effects. It does look dated, much of early Sci-fi does. The apes in “2001” look like guys in cheap suits, but without these efforts were would we be?

OOPS! Forgot this is my first visit. Maybe “Skyfall” will look dated to someone in the future. What will movies be then? Holographs?

Nah, It’ll Be Like Total Recall. We Won’t Be Watching Movies, They’ll Just Be Implanting The Memories Of The Movie Into Our Brains hahahaha

Brad, I’m a girl/female, as no doubt you are aware….. My partner is a boy/man, as you may or may not be aware… The bond movies, I think, are quite good (well, some are good and some are okay). My partner thinks that all Bond movies are good. I cannot say how many times he has watched them however; whenever he says “want to watch a movie?”… you can be sure that it will be followed with… “wanna watch a bond film?”. My standard reply is…. “Yeah sure, why not!?!”
My question is this…. π Don’t you guys ever get tired of watching the same movies over and over again…?
I mean, Brad; I’m sure that my partner could even turn the sound down and do the talking for all of the characters in all of the Bond movies…. hahahahahahahaha… π
And, I still think he’s about the sweetest man I know; even though obsessed… π

Argh and Oh….. Okay, guess I’ll just have to accept this difference between most guys and gals…
My daughter’s partner has a whole wall of DVDs, which are his most prized possessions. I will inform her of your comment so that, she too can accept what is right before her eyes…
Thank You Brad :p Already I feel more settled within…! π

Really? You don’t think “Never Say Never Again” or “The Living Daylights” weren’t worse? I have a soft spot for Moonraker, as it was my first introduction to the world of James Bond. I read the book within the last couple years, and it was great–very different than the movie.

“Never Say Never Again” Is One I Don’t Count. It’s Just A Remake Of “Thunderball” (“Thunderball” is My Favorite Sean Connery Bond Flick btw) It’s Just Not As Quality As “Thunderball” But It’s Not Terrible. As For BOTH Timothy Dalton Flicks, I’ve Always Felt They Got A Bum-Rep. I Enjoyed “The Living Daylights” But I LOVED “Licence To Kill” As It Was A Much Grittier Bond Flick. And YES, I Did Like Timothy Dalton As Bond. He Played The Role VERY Serious. But “Moonraker” Is One I Truly Love, Though Most Peeps I Know Don’t Like It Much At All. I’m Just Happy To Have Found A Few Folks Who Love It For The Cheese-Tastic’ness It Brings To The Bond Table hehehehe
Wow. Sorry. I Got Long-Winded For A Moment.

I love Moonraker. It’s cheesy goodness has always made it one of my favorite Bond films. From fighting giant snakes to Jaws to that land-capable gondola, it just keeps getting better and better. Everyone should own this movie.

Moonraker was my first big screen Bond movie. I do hold a special place in my heart for it but sheesh it is truly “Cheese-tastic” for sure, man. Moonraker was indeed ambitious in many things like effects and sets. I have been reviewing the Bond films and I can’t wait to get to this one! lol. π And Thunderball is a great Bond movie to like, Brad. I just picked up Never Say Never Again for review. Been a long time and like you, I dug Dalton. I wished he had done more.

Moonraker definitely is one of the campiest, silliest Bonds out there. And for those who are open to that brand of Bond (like me) it is a lot of fun, sure. But there are a number of Bond purists who want to see the series stick to genuine, straight laced, high quality films…. and I can totally understand why they detest this movie.
