The Song Stuck In My Head: “HARDEN MY HEART” by QUARTERFLASH (1981)

HARDEN MY HEARTIs The Jam To End All Jams From The Band QUARTERFLASH

…All Of My Life…

…I’ve Been Waitin’ In The Rain…

…I’ve Been Waitin’ For A Feeling…

…That Never, Ever Came…

…It Feels So Close…

…But Always Disappears. …

…Darlin’, In Your Wildest Dreams…

…You Never Had A Clue…

…But It’s Time You Got The News. …

…I’m Gonna HARDEN MY HEART…

…I’m Gonna Swallow My Tears…

…I’m Gonna Turn And Leave You Here. …

… … … … …

… … … …

QUARTERFLASH

…Is One Of Those Bands That Seem To Churn-Up Good Feelings…

…Regardless Of When I’m Listening To Them…

…And Regardless Of Which Song Is Actually Playing.

Must Be That Hot Hot HOT ’80s SAX!!!

HARDEN MY HEART

…Was Their Most Popular Jam…

…And Rightly So.

It’s An Amazing Song.

So Amazing…

…In Fact…

…It’s Been Playing About In My Brain Since Its Rediscovery The Other Day.

The Only Song From…

QUARTERFLASH

…I’d Say Could Come Close To Rivaling…

Listening To…

QUARTERFLASH

…Reminds Me A Bundle Of My Childhood.

My Father Simply LOVED Them.

So Much So, It Was One Of The Very First CD’s He Purchased During The 1980s.

I Keep Trying To Tell Folks That…

…When It Comes To Music…

…I Was Raised Right.

And I Sincerely Believe That Is So.

Having A Family That Truly Considered Quality Music To Be An Essential Of Daily Living…

…I’ve Always Considered Myself Very Lucky.

While Most Kids Were Trying To Rebel From The Music Of Their Parents…

…I Chose To Embrace It.

Granted…

…That Decision DID Net Me More Detractors Than Supporters…

…But I Really Don’t Give A Rip.

I Didn’t Give One Then…

…And I Sure As Can Be Don’t Give One Now.

I Like What I Like.

Just Like You…

…And You…

…And Even You In The Back.

Period.

What More Is There To Be Said, My Peeps?

Not Much, Eh?

Good.

  1. This song appears in the movie (and I would suppose the Broadway play it’s based on) “Rock of Ages,” so I’m sure the band is enjoying some extra scratch from iTunes downloads.

  2. Great song! As a native Oregonian, I had the pleasure of hearing it on the radio non-stop for about 18 months. First as a regional hit under the band’s original name, Seafood Mama, then after their national deal as Quarterflash. It eased up the charts, logging 12 weeks in the Top 10 and 19 in the Top 40, pretty impressive for the time. It got stuck at #3 for two weeks behind Centerfold (J. Geils) and I Can’t Go For That (Hall + Oates). It’s been a constant in my personal jukebox for >yikes< 30 years…
