“8MM“
...Is A Flick Most Of Y’all Likely Hated.
Lord Knows The Critics Hated It.
Audiences Stayed Away During Its Theatrical Run.
In Short…
…The Film Was A Total Bomb In The Minds Of Most People.
HOWEVER…
…I Am NOT Among Them.
To ME…
“8MM“
…Is A Pretty Gritty, Hardcore Romp…
…And It’s One Of My FAVORITE Post-Oscar…
NICHOLAS CAGE
…Flicks.
(Which Says A Lot, I Think, Since Most Of His Post-Oscar Flicks Have Really Sucked HARD.)
“8MM“
…Was Directed By One Of My LEAST Favorite Directors…
JOEL SCHUMACHER
(aka Mr. I-Put-Nipples-On-The-Batsuit-And-Killed-The-Batman-Franchise-For-A-While)
…But…
…It Was Written By…
ANDREW KEVIN WALKER
(He Wrote "SE7EN", And The Screenplay For "SLEEPY HOLLOW")
…And Co-Starred…
JOAQUIN PHOENIX
JAMES GANDOLFINI
PETER STORMARE
&
CATHERINE KEENER
…Making It MUCH More Tolerable/Palatable.
And Check Out This Tagline:
("You Can't Prepare For Where The Truth Will Take You.")
The Truth In THAT Sentence Is True-True To Truth, Fo SHO.
😉
NICHOLAS CAGE
…Is A Surveillance Expert Who’s Been Hired By A Wealthy-Widow To Try And Find Out If The Contents Of An Old Reel Of Film She’s Discovered Is Real Or Not.
The Reel Of Film Is Of A Younger-Woman, Being Brutally Beaten And Then Killed.
It’s What They Call A “SNUFF-FILM”…
…And The Widow Is Desperate To Find Out The Truth, As The Reel Of Film Belonged To Her Recently-Deceased Husband.
The Quest For The Truth Leads…
NICHOLAS CAGE
…Through The Seedy, Dark, Disturbing Underworld Of Sex And Pornography…
…As He Attempts To Find The Girl In The Film, Or At Least Find…
…WHO SHE IS…
…WHERE SHE IS…
…And…
…IF SHE’S REALLY DEAD.
It’s A Wild Ride, Indeed, And It Makes For Some Quality Movie-Watchin’.
😀
So…
…While I Know The Flick Was A Bomb With Most Folks…
…I’m Sure There Are A Few Of Y’all Out There Who Truly DID Enjoy…
“8MM“
…Just As I Did.
Is It “THE BEST FLICK EVER”???
Nope.
Not At All.
Is It “AS BAD AS THE CRITICS MADE IT OUT TO BE”???
Nope.
Not At All.
Is It “DARK, GRITTY, MOODY, BRUTAL, And DISTURBING”???
YOU BETCHA, BUSTER!!!
😉
I saw this is the theater and thought it was brilliant. I haven’t seen it in years, though. Been waiting for a blu-ray release.

That’s COOL BEANS, Sir!
I Also Saw It In The Theater.
During The Showing, I Noticed The Theater Was Nearly EMPTY. It Was Me, And Like 4 Other Folks.
I Really REALLY Liked The Flick, Tho.
I Was Never Quite Sure WHY The Critics And Other Peeps Hated It So Much.
I Thought It Was A Damned Fine Flick, Fo SHO!
And YES, I Also Want It On The Bluray. It Would Be A Nifty Addition To The Ole Collection.

I saw ‘Race With The Devil’ with just me and my grandfather. I was surprised that they ran it but it remains one of my fondest memories of him.

This was one of the very first DVDs I ever bought, I quite liked it but I haven’t seen it in many years now and when I try to remember it I get it confused with another Nic Cage movie, Snake Eyes…Which is another underrated flick, in my eyes.

I Actually Agree With You, Sir.
“SNAKE EYES” Is A Very Underrated Flick.
And “8MM” Was One Of My Earlier DVD Purchases, Also.
Thanks For The Comments, Sir.
They’re ALWAYS Much Appreciated 🙂

I don’t know this one but I will definately look out for it. As for Mr. Cage, ‘Birdy’ is one of my favourite movies. I developed a love affair with ornithopters because of that movie. I also keep birds (finches and cockatiels) because of that movie. Who would have thought a movie would bring out my inner bird brain.

Movies Do Have Odd Affects On People, Sometimes.
Though, I Think You’re The First Person I’ve Talked With Who Had THAT Reaction.
Should I Use A “For The Birds” Line???
Nah.
Maybe Next Time.
hehehe
